AmSty Seeks Another Polystyrene Increase for July Amid Recent Supply Drop, Higher Feedstock Costs
June 27, 2022

The recent spike in Benzene and Styrene prices along with tight inventory levels has prompted one major Polystyrene producer to announce a price increase for July.

In a letter to customers, American Styrenics said it will increase the transaction price for all grades of PS by $.21/lb, effective July 1. The increase also followed the $.09/lb initiative announced for June contracts, which have not yet been settled.

Unlike the Polyethylene and Polypropylene market, which are seeing negative fundamentals brought on by declining feedstock monomer costs and ample supply, Polystyrene has been hit by a substantial drop in inventory reported for May due to SM/PS outages and rising Benzene and Styrene, which have followed the upward direction from Crude Oil futures.
