AmSty Places Polystyrene on Allocation Following Production Issue May 04, 2022
One major North American Polystyrene resin producer said this week it was instituting an allocation process on its Polystyrene products, following recent production issues and supply chain challenges.
In a letter to customers on Tuesday, Americas Styrenics (AmSty) confirmed the PS allocation and said it expects reduced order loads and restricted availability through June.
The company said the PS allocation was due to an unexpected operating issue at its Saint James styrene monomer plant in Louisiana on April 27, which has reduced styrene production for an extended period of time.
The plant issue also caused AmSty to declare a force majeure on its feedstock styrene and ethylbenzene deliveries
AmSty's allocation announcement comes as it looks to push through a $.05/lb increase on PS, effective May 1.
