TotalEnergies Declares Force Majeure on Polypropylene Resins May 02, 2022
A major North American resin producer declared force majeure (FM) on its Polypropylene (PP) products late Friday, making it the second company to do so in as many months.
TotalEnergies said in a letter to customers late Friday, April 29, that it was declaring FM on PP products due to a shortage of additives required to manufacture certain grades. The company added that its PP grades will be curtailed until further notice and was unable to provide a timeline on when normal production would resume.
The FM comes a month after LyondellBasell declared FM on PP grades at its Lake Charles facility in Louisiana, following a mechanical gearbox failure.
Both FMs also come as PP producers are collectively pushing for a $.06/lb margin enhancing increase for May.
