Fire at Memphis PMC Biogenix Facility May Impact Film Grade Resin Market
01/13/2022

Additives for film grade resins may be strained following a fire at the PMC Biogenix facility in Memphis, Tennessee earlier this week. There has been no update to operations or production at the company's facility following an explosion and fire at the location on Tuesday.

One employee was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, and has since been downgraded to stable condition. Three other employees were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries before the fire was terminated on Wednesday.

The Memphis Fire Department said the explosion was likely due to a fatty acid being handled at the plant, which was stable with no environmental concern.

PMC Biogenix, a global developer, manufacturer, and marketer of specialty chemicals produced from renewable resources, has not yet provided any status update regarding the facility.

The company also serves the polymers and plastics industry and is a large supplier of products that include slip additives for film grade resins.
