US Plastics Resin Production Down in November 2021-ACC
January 06, 2022

US production of major plastic resins declined in November 2021, according to data released by the American Chemistry Council (ACC) this week. The decline came alongside continued price erosion, ample inventory levels and wider availability for resins such as Polyethylene and Polypropylene in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Major plastics resin production totaled 7.6 billion pounds during November 2021, down by 1.6% from the previous month, and a decrease of 5% compared to the same month in 2020. Year-to-date production was 83.1 billion pounds, however, saw a slight 0.1% increase as compared to the same period in 2020.

Meanwhile, sales and captive (internal) use of major plastic resins totaled 7.5 billion pounds during November 2021, up by 1.1% compared to the prior month, and up by 1.4% from the same month one year earlier. ACC data also showed year-to-date sales and captive at 81.7 billion pounds, a 2% decrease as compared to the same period in 2020.
