LyondellBasell HDPE Unit in Texas Down due to Hurricane Nicholas
September 14, 2021

LyondellBasell confirmed it has shut down its Matagorda Complex located in Bay City, Texas due to widespread power outages in the area brought on by Hurricane Nicholas.

The company said its other Gulf Coast facilities are operating as planned, and it continues to closely monitor conditions and will adjust its operations accordingly, if necessary.

Nicholas made landfall late Monday/early Tuesday as a Category 1 hurricane along the Texas Gulf Coast.

"Prior to the heavy rainfall and flooding associated with Tropical Storm Nicholas, LyondellBasell's manufacturing facilities implemented their comprehensive preparedness plans in accordance to standard protocol, which included executing strategies to protect our assets and our people," the company said.

The Matagorda complex produces High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plastic resins.
