Repsol Selects Univation Technologies PE Process for Portugal Polymers Plant
09/09/2021

Repsol has selected Univation Technologies' UNIPOL PE Process for its 300,000 mt/yr Polyethylene (PE) plant, which will be constructed along with another polymer production unit at Repsol's Industrial Complex in Sines, Portugal.

Repsol selected a full-density plant design with production capabilities for a broad range of HDPE and LLDPE products specifically targeting highly specialized PE applications serving the pharmaceutical, automotive and food industries.

In addition to Univation's HDPE and LLDPE capabilities, Repsol selected to access Univation's XCAT Metallocene Technology to produce specialty metallocene PE grades aimed at the European Polyethylene film market.

Repsol will also utilize Univation's software platforms for process control capability and virtual process training.

The combined EUR 657 million ($777 million) project, which also includes a 300,000 mt/yr Polypropylene plant, was announced back in July and represents the largest industrial investment in Portugal in the last ten years.

Both plants are expected to be operational in 2025.
